Reading starts in term 1, week 1. Other homework starts gradually but is fully in place by the end of term 1. Reading school reading book 4-7 times a week to an adult please.
Spellings to learn most weeks, tested most Fridays. The words to learn should be at the front of the book, with the tests at the back.
Number bonds or times tables to learn, tested most Fridays. The children will be tested on their most recent set of number bonds/times tables on a sticker inside mental maths book.
As well as number bonds or times tables to learn, your child will be given online homework.
We use online games linked to the teaching in school. Access can be from any computer, including public libraries, but may not be possible on all tablets. Please use Google Chrome or Firefox. Internet explorer does not support the site.
The children will play games which earn points. They can spend their points on activities within the site. Last year’s class really enjoyed it.
The homework is usually given midweek. Children can play the games as often as they want. They do not have to complete their task in a single sitting, but they can earn cubes for their table in class by keeping up with the games, so the more they complete, the better.
Your child will need to log in at:
Log in details will be given once the homework starts to be allocated.
Occasional other homework eg topic research
Children are expected to use a writing pencil rather than biro, pen or coloured pencil to do written homework. They will also need colouring pencils, scissors and glue sometimes.
Currently Mondays and Wednesdays, but children should always have a full PE kit in school every day as we sometimes take the opportunity to do PE on other days.
PE kit is shorts, T shirt and daps, and socks if children are wearing tights. As the weather gets colder, children may use jogging bottoms rather than shorts for outdoor PE.
Y3 children go swimming for ten sessions in over the two autumn terms. Further information will be given by letter.
Other Helpful Information
Children love to work out of the classroom, and we like to get outside as much as possible. Please can your child bring a waterproof coat or jacket to school every day except in a blazing summer heatwave!
Water and Snacks
All children should bring a water bottle to school. They should take it home each day to wash it and refill it.
At morning break Y2 children have a snack of fruit or vegetable as provided by the government.
Y3 children may bring a healthy snack to eat at break time.
