Jaguars Term 3 2017-18

Yet another busy term for Jaguars.

We started off the term with our new topic, Macbeth. After learning a little about the play, we wrote some atmospheric descriptions of the ‘Wild and Windy Heath Somewhere in Scotland’ where Macbeth and Banquo met the three witches.

This term we have been studying the topic of ‘Light’ in our science lessons. Mrs. Coate set us this challenge :

How can we keep an eye on the younger children in the playground in order to keep them safe?

The one rule is : you cannot be seen.

We enjoyed making our periscopes which we tested out in the Early Years playground. We don’t think the children in Miss Lawro’s, Miss Barras’ and Mrs. Hambidge’s classes spotted us!

Jaguar class always enjoys a challenge and we particularly enjoyed our maths investigation about Vedic numbers. On 2nd February, we participated in the NSPCC Number Day by ‘Dressing up for Digits’ when we learnt all about what Vedic numbers are, where they came from and created ‘vedic worms’ using squared and isometric paper, we found that activity a particular challenge!

Every Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm, you won’t hear a peep out of Jaguars classroom, as we have been particularly relaxed during our mindfulness sessions with Hema. She has been teaching us various aspects of mindfulness, including ‘body scan’ and an activity where we ‘go into a bubble’ into our own imaginary world. Many of us have been practising at home. We are looking forward to more sessions after half term.

We participated in Safer Internet Day on 7th February which focused on : Create, Connect and Share Respect : A Better Internet Starts with You. We discussed how we communicated online and thought about what a good online friend is. The E-Cadets have also visited us to deliver a lesson all about communicating effectively online.

As our topic is all about Macbeth, we have been doing some drama. We have studied the opening scenes of the play when Macbeth and Banquo meet the three witches. Many eerie cackles can be heard from the hall on Monday afternoons during our drama sessions!

We have been very lucky this term to have had visits from Swindon Town Football Club, who have been giving us sessions related to all sorts of football activities and skills. We’ve really enjoyed these lessons.

During one of our KS2 assemblies, we experienced something a little different! Debate Mate Club (run by Miss Bunclark) delivered one of their debates in preparation for their competition in March. Two of our Jaguars, Riley and Ahmad, are members of the club and we think they did brilliantly presenting their arguments. Good luck at the competition next term.

On the last day of term, we were visited by Swindon Wildcats for an assembly all about Internet Safety. As well as talking to us about how we can stay safe online, Sam (who plays ice hockey for Swindon Wildcats) told us all about his sport and answered all of our questions, he must have been exhausted! In addition, he had brought along a real-life ice hockey kit, Caleb was chosen by Mrs. Coate to try some of it on, it was a little bit too big for him, to say the least!!

AND FINALLY ….

We couldn’t finish our blog without mentioning our Term 3 Pick and Mix homework which we shared with parents/grandparents/friends etc on the last day of term. We produced some fantastic pieces (even if we do say so ourselves), and Mrs. Coate was so impressed, she said she’s going to put them on display. We can’t wait!

See you next term!
