Wow, what another busy time term 5 was in Squirrel Class. We enjoyed doing so many different things. We started the term looking at maps and atlases and naming the continents of the world. We then focused on Africa – kicked off with our own flight to Africa! Everyone loved getting excited about packing luggage, getting though airport security and the flight itself! We have started thinking about African animals and images but have much more to learn this term.
We have also been immersed in African Art. In our lessons we have created out own patterns, drawn and painted a giraffe and looked carefully at Tinga Tinga art. We also loved creating our own African water carrier or warrior pictures with oil pastels and brusho for a colourful background.
Tinga Tinga tales were also our inspiration for our own African stories – did you know how the bush baby got his huge eyes?
We were lucky enough to take part in a fire safety talk where we all learnt all about fire safety. We learnt so many new things to help keep us safe. Did you know that you should check your smoke alarm every week?
We completed our coding unit in computing and can now all use computer language and algorithms to make our very own apps! We saved our own and then had a go on each others – we loved them.
All the Year 2 staff have been very proud of you all this term after completing your SAT’s. You all tried your best and really showed off everything you have learnt. We enjoyed some treats at the end of term to say ‘well done’ including making chocolate crispy cakes with some Y5/6 helpers!
Remember to keep checking Twitter as we are always posting about Squirrel Class. We hope you enjoyed your holidays and we are looking forward to all we have planned in term 6.
