Hedgehogs Class Term 2 2017-18

Hedgehogs had another busy term leading up to Christmas.

Our continuing science topic included close observation of worms in our wormery. We were delighted to see them eat their way through all the soil to mix it very efficiently.

Our Rights Respecting Day saw us considering the feelings and experiences of refugees with particular reference to Paddington Bear. This helped us to understand a bit more what it would be like to arrive as a stranger in a new country.

Our weekly recorder lessons are continuing and we can play several tunes in time to the backing track and we are beginning to read music in standard notation.

We also enjoyed the anti-bullying presentation ‘The power of one’ which encouraged us to be upstanders rather than bystanders when things are going wrong.

A couple of weeks later we were enjoying the traditional pantomime, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ When Jack was in trouble because a ferocious giant was trying to eat his cow, he asked the audience what he should do. The answer was unmistakeable, ‘Tell a teacher.’

The highlight of the term was the performance, with Squirrels class, of the traditional Russian Tale, Baboushka. It was a real team effort with sharing out of the title role between 7 actors, great scenes with lots of actors and lovely singing. Thank you to parents for providing costumes at a very busy time of the year.

Thank you too for the contributions towards the shoebox appeal, Children in need, Christmas jumper day and other ways we help others less fortunate than ourselves. All donations are appreciated.

After a Christmas rest we will be ready for our new topic, ‘Famous People.’
