Another term has flown by! In Term 5, we started to find out what life was like in Roman times. We looked at how the Roman Empire expanded and we found out about mosaics. We have researched different aspects of Roman life such as soldiers, towns and food.
In English, the children wrote some brilliant explanation texts about volcanoes and stories about escaping from Pompeii. Our class book is Tiger Tiger by Lynn Reid Banks, a story about two tiger cubs which is set in Ancient Rome.
In Art, we have started to design our own mosaics and we have painted Roman soldiers and volcanoes using a variety of techniques.
This term, we investigated the properties of and separating materials in Science. We found out about solutions and suspensions and how to use sieving, filtration and evaporation to separate mixtures. We also looked at magnetism.
As part of our PE, we learned new skills in cricket, tag rugby and rounders.
Swindon MIND paid us another visit and we played physical games to keep us fit in body and mind.
In ICT, we made our own data bases and collected information about volcanoes around the world.
We finished the term by visiting Coleshill Estate where we found out about looking after our planet and conserving energy. It was a lovely day and the children did us proud.
We have learned how to tell the time in French and in English. The children understand latitude and longitude and are becoming experts at map reading.
For homework, some of the children made boats, researched Roman Gods and tried out Roman recipes. They were all very proud of their projects and I would like to thank parents for your continued support – we really enjoyed sampling the Roman food.
It was quite a busy term but Term 6 looks like it will be even busier. Fingers crossed for sunny weather.
