What a busy but exciting term we’ve had!
The children have settled excellently in to Year One and have really impressed us with their hard work and determination. It has been such a fun term learning all about our friends and producing some fantastic work around our topic.
In English, we focused on using our new Year One writing rules to ensure we produce super work. We even wrote a whole booklet all about ourselves! We’ve focused on lists, captions and labels as well this term.
In science we learnt all about our bodies, from our body parts to our senses. The Senses Investigation was a firm favourite in Frogs class! We tasted foods such as marshmallows, salted popcorn and dark chocolate and then walked around the school to see what we could see, hear, touch and smell. We also looked at the environment around us and discussed the changes that happen to our environment during the season of Autumn – comparing them to the other seasons. Our welly walk helped us spot Autumnal things in the playground and on the field.
In art we painted self-portraits of ourselves and used the leaves we found on our Autumn welly walk to create squirrel pictures. The highlight of our DT was designing and making our own sandwiches – we even got to eat them afterwards!
For the European Day of Languages we looked at France and learnt the French colours. We also tasted some French food – although the brie and camembert weren’t popular amongst Frogs class!
We ended the term with our pyjama day as a reward for filling up our marble jar – Frogs class have worked so hard as a whole team to fill it right up. We celebrated the values of teamwork and cooperation and know that when we work together great things can happen and be achieved.
We are now looking forward to a busy second term and doing all things Christmassy in December!
