Otters end of Term 6 blog

Well, that year went quickly!

We can’t believe we are already at the end of Term 6 and we are saying goodbye to the class of 2021 – 2022.

So much has happened -we have had a brilliant year and there have been trips, visitors and theme weeks for the children to remember.

This term, our main focus has been History and we dressed up as Vikings on one of the hottest days of the year! The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Vikings through in-depth discussions with our Viking visitors, role play, games, making beaded headbands and best of all, re-enacting a real battle with swords and shields! We also enjoyed our Geography work about Scandinavia and I think quite a few of us would now like to visit Norway.

In Guided Reading, we have been reading Arthur and the Golden Rope and we have written our own quest stories in English as well as writing reports about the Vikings.

During Art week, we found out about Friedensreich Hundertwasser and as nature played a big role in his work, we created environmental posters based on his paintings. We have also created some fabulous, colourful dragon-eye designs this term which the children then sculpted from clay and painted beautifully.

For Science this term, we investigated materials and we found out which everyday materials are dissolvable. The children now know how to make cups of coffee!

The children practised their sewing skills to make book sleeves in DT and they have explored a variety of different fastenings, including learning how to sew on buttons – they may not stay on for very long though!

In PSHE, we have been talking relationships and reproduction – we are sorry if this led to difficult questions.

The children did really well in PE which focused on cricket and team work – something which was demonstrated during Sports day and again during Sports week which was a lovely way to finish the year.

We are sorry to be saying goodbye to Mrs Gale but the children are already getting used to seeing Mr Neal around school.

Thank you so much for your support and we hope you have a fantastic summer.
