What a busy but exciting term we’ve had!
The children have settled excellently in to Year One and have really impressed us with their hard work and determination. It has been such a fun term learning all about our friends and producing some fantastic work around our topic.
In English, we focused on using our new Year One writing rules to ensure we produce super work. We’ve focused on lists, captions and labels this term, as well as writing a whole booklet all about ourselves! We thoroughly enjoyed learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears using the Talk for Writing technique, and we wrote the story in our own words.
In science we learnt all about our bodies, from our body parts to our senses. We also looked at the environment around us and discussed the changes that happen to our environment during the season of Autumn – comparing them to the other seasons. Our welly walk helped us spot Autumnal things around the school.
In art we painted self-portraits of ourselves, painted the colour wheel and even did some bark and leaf rubbings. The highlight of our DT was designing and making our own porridge – we even got to eat it afterwards!
For the European Day of Languages we looked at France and learnt how to say hello, goodbye, thank you and the French colours. We also tasted some French food – although the camembert was not popular amongst Frogs class! We also looked at Henri Matisse and recreated his artwork ‘The Snail’.
Frogs class have worked extremely hard together and have earned lots of marbles in their jar! Once it is full, they will have a whole class treat – there are only a few marbles left to get in the jar!
We are now looking forward to a busy second term and doing all things Christmassy in December!
