Term 1 has finished!
It has been an unusual term but Jaguars class have been amazing! They have shown tremendous resilience and adaptability. Jaguars class have shown a brilliant attitude to learning and have adapted well to the new way of working and learning together.
Even though some of the class routines and systems have been altered, the pupils of Jaguars class have shown a great ‘can-do’ attitude and good cooperation. Indeed, it did not take us long before we were in full Year 5 and 6 study mode! We have produced some great pieces of writing, developed our strategies to help with reading comprehension, learnt about evolution and tackled some tricky mathematical problems as well.
Our topic this term has been ‘The Victorians’. We have studied the timeline of this period, looked at some of the significant people who defined the period and studied in more depth about Queen Victoria herself.
In English, we looked at the Queen Victoria’s diaries and have written some ourselves; based on the evidence from the period. We used past tense, first person pronouns and semi colons to separate clauses to enhance our writing style.
In maths, we have looked at the four operations, place value, rounding and also position and direction on a coordinate plane. Jaguars have enjoyed being set additional challenges and problems that give them a chance to apply their understanding.
In science, we have studied the Theory of Evolution and looked at the effect of natural selection on the world around us. We have studied how fossils are made and what they can tell us about life on earth millions of years ago.
Added to this we have played some terrific cricket outside; learnt a range of techniques in art with paint, charcoal, chalk and pencil; reviewed how to greet each other in French and developed our coding skills in computing.
