Haydon Wick Primary School For Parents

Badgers (Year 4/5)

Hello and a warm welcome from Mrs Walsh and Mrs Pinkney

The class teachers are Mrs Pinkney (Mondays and Tuesdays) and Mrs Walsh (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays). Mrs Daytona is our Teaching Assistant.

Topics we will be covering this year

  • Term 1 & 2 – What A Wonderful World (Habitats and Living Things)
  • Term 3 & 4 – Ancient Greece
  • Term 5 & 6 – France

Homework

Your child will be given a ‘pick and mix’ homework each term which will be related to our current topic. They should choose at least one activity as well as completing their reading and times tables / spelling practice. Completed homework will be shared and celebrated with parents in the classroom at the end of each term. Homework can be accessed on the Class updates page.

Reading

All the children have a school reading book and reading log in their book bag. Please try to read with your child regularly even if your child is a fluent reader and support him/her by asking questions to deepen their understanding of the texts. Please make comments about their reading in their journals to show they have been reading regularly at home – if possible about 4 times per week

Spellings

There will be spellings to learn most weeks, tested on Mondays. The words to learn will be stuck in the front of the book, with the tests at the back. Please try to ensure your child has their spelling book in school on Mondays.

Maths

Look out for your child’s Times Table book – they will be given a grid to fill in every Friday. We will also be giving out spellings on Mondays to learn for a test the following Monday.

PE Days

Our PE days are usually Tuesday and Wednesday but may change so please can you ensure your child’s PE kit is in school every day. Also, please make sure all your clothes and PE kits are named clearly.

We look forward to working with you to get the best from your child over the course of the year.
