Haydon Wick Primary School For Parents

Dragonflies (Reception)

Hello and a warm welcome to Dragonflies Class!

Dragonflies is the Reception class at Haydon Wick, which is taught by Mrs Hambidge (Monday and Friday) and Mrs Lawrie (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). The children will also be supported everyday by the class teaching assistant, Mrs Hawkins.

Topics we will be covering this year:

· Term 1 - All About Me
· Term 2 - Polar Express
· Term 3 - Once Upon a Time
· Term 4 - Dinosaurs
· Term 5 - Blast Off!
· Term 6 - Green Fingers

Morning Routine

Children are welcome to come into the classroom as soon as the cloakroom door is opened by a member of staff. The cloakroom is limited on space so we ask that you encourage the children to be as independent as possible. Once they have settled into the new school year, please encourage them say goodbye to you in the playground and to come into the cloakroom and the classroom independently.

Home Time Routine

We will stand with the children at the classroom door and let them go when we see you in the playground (please give us a wave until we get to know you). If your child is going to an after school club or is being collected by someone other than yourself, then please let us know or give the school office a call.

Home Learning

Please read with your child daily. We will change the children's books once we feel they are confident and ready for a new one. We also ask that you support them with their phonics sounds and their keywords keyring.

What You Need in Dragonflies Class:

School Uniform/PE

Please make sure ALL items of clothing are clearly labelled, including PE kit. PE kit should be in school at all times and should include: t-shirt, shorts and daps (also trainers/jogging bottoms for cold and wet weather).

PE will be on every Monday and either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Wellington Boots

For wet weather activities and welly walks, we ask that your child brings in a pair of wellies that are labelled and pegged together. These will be kept in the cloakroom.

Snack/Enrichment Activities

We have a morning snack of fruit, milk or water. Throughout the year we will also offer children enrichment activities. In order to do this and to cover the cost of cooking activities, we ask for a contribution of £12.00 to cover the whole year OR £2 every term. Please give the money, in a named envelope, to a member of staff in the classroom. Thank you!

Key Dates and Information

Please keep an eye on the whiteboard located outside the cloakroom door for important messages and key dates.

Please feel free to pop in and see us - we are always available to talk if you have any queries. If there's anything that could affect your child's day and you feel we need to be aware of then please let us know in the morning, and if you wish this can then be discussed in more detail after school.
