Haydon Wick Primary School For Parents

Honeybees (Reception/Year 1)

Hello and a warm welcome from Ms Keye

This year the Early Years and Year One class will be taught by Ms Keye. The children will also be supported by Mrs Greenaway and Miss Crawford the class/key stage teaching assistants.

Topics we will be covering this year

  • Term 1 - All About Me
  • Term 2 - Polar Express
  • Term 3 - Once Upon a Time
  • Term 4 - Dinosaurs
  • Term 5 - Blast Off!
  • Term 6 - Green Fingers

Morning Routine

Children are welcome into the classroom as soon as the cloakroom door is opened by a member of staff. The cloakroom does get very crowded in the mornings so we ask you to encourage the children to be as independent as possible. Once they have settled into the new school year please encourage them say goodbye to you in the playground and to come into the cloakroom and the classroom independently.

Home time Routine

We will stand with the children at the classroom door and let them go when we see you in the playground. (Please give us a wave for the first few days until we get to know you.)
If your child is going to after school club, or is being collected by someone other than yourself please record this on the board just inside the cloakroom door.

Please could you hear your child read daily if possible and support them with their sounds, key words and spellings.

What will you need in Honeybees Class?

School Uniform/PE

Please make sure ALL items of clothing are clearly labelled including PE kit. The clearly labelled PE kit should be in school at all times and should include: tshirt, shorts, daps (and also trainers/jogging bottoms for cold and wet weather.)

Wellington Boots

It would be helpful if your child could bring a pair of wellies to keep in the cloakroom for wet weather activities and welly walks. Please ensure they are labelled and pegged together.

Snack/Enrichment Activities

We have a morning snack of fruit, milk or water. Throughout the year we will offer children enrichment activities in order to do this and to cover the cost of cooking activities we ask for a contribution of £12.00 to cover the whole year OR £2 every term. Please give the money, in a named envelope, to one of the adults in the classroom.

We look forward to working with you and your child over the next academic year. If you have any queries please feel free to pop in and see us. If you have any worries that could affect your child’s day then please let us know in the morning. If you would like to discuss anything in more detail then after school is usually the most convenient time.
