Haydon Wick Primary School For Parents

Honeybees (Reception/Year 1)

Honeybees class is the Year One and Reception mixed class at Haydon Wick, which will be taught by Miss Law. The children will also be supported by the class teaching assistant, Mrs Greenaway.

Topics we will be covering this year

  • Term 1 – I am special
  • Term 2 – Winter Wonderland
  • Term 3 – Castle on a Cloud
  • Term 4 - The Secret Life of Animals
  • Term 5 – Island LIfe
  • Term 6 – Living and Growing

Morning Routine:

The children are welcome to come into the classroom as soon as the door is opened by a member of staff. As the cloakroom is limited on space, we politely ask that you encourage your child to come into the classroom independently by leaving them at the planters just outside the cloakroom door.

Home time Routine:

We will stand with the children at the classroom door and send them to you when we see you. The playground can be busy at the end of the day so please give us a wave so we can send your child to you promptly. If your child is going home with someone other than yourself, please let Miss Law know at morning drop off, or alternatively leave a message with the office and they will pass it on.

Home Learning

Please read with your child daily. We also ask that you support them with their phonics sounds, key words and spellings.

What will you need in Honeybees Class?

If your child requires regular medication such as an inhaler, then please pass this onto Miss Law so that she can provide you with the correct forms to fill in. We will try to keep on top of expiry dates, however, we do ask that you take responsibility for restocking your child's medicine.

School Uniform:
Please make sure ALL items of clothing are clearly labelled including hats, coats, water bottles etc.

Wellington Boots:
It would be helpful if your child could bring a pair of names wellies to keep in the cloakroom for wet weather activities and welly walks.

The clearly labelled PE kit should be in school at all times and should include: t-shirt, shorts, daps (and also trainers/jogging bottoms for cold and wet weather.) PE kits will be sent home t the end of each term.

We have a morning snack of fruit, milk or water. Once children turn 5 they are no longer entitled to free milk so we purchase milk on a weekly basis. In order to do this and to cover the cost of food tasting and cooking activities throughout the year, we ask for a contribution of £12.00 to cover the whole year OR £2 every term. Please give the money, in a named envelope, to your child to pass to one of the adults in the classroom so that we can tick it off.

Thank you so much for your support. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us via Class Dojo, the Office or directly speaking to us at drop off or home time. We cannot wait to get to know your lovely children more throughout the year.
