Key Dates and Information
Please keep an eye on Class Dojo for important messages and key dates.
Homework
Your child will be given a ‘Pick and Mix’ homework each term which will be related to our topic. They should choose at least one activity as well as completing their reading and times tables / spelling practice. If they have other ideas which are not on the sheet, we welcome their creativity and look forward to hearing/seeing these. Completed homework will be shared and celebrated with parents in the classroom at the end of each term. Homework can be accessed on the Class updates page and on Class Dojo.
Topics we will be covering this year:
· Term 1 – Term 2: World War Two
Term 3 – Term 4: Shakespeare
Term 5 – Term 6: China: The Shang dynasty and modern China
Reading
All the children have a school reading book and reading record. Please read with your child regularly even if your child is a fluent reader and support him/her by asking questions to deepen their understanding of the texts. Please make comments about their reading in their journals to show they have been reading regularly at home and sign their bookmark every time they read at home. (if possible at least 4 times per week). The books/authors/genres we suggest will all be available in our school library and class library. We appreciate your support in helping your child read for pleasure!.
Children receive a reward from Mrs Gale for each bookmark completed.
Spellings
There will be spellings to learn each week and tested on Fridays. The words to learn are on the website, on Class Dojo and in the purple folder in your child’s schoolbag. These spellings will focus on spelling patterns and rules. Your child will be assessed and given a highlighted copy of the ‘Statutory Spelling’ list which is a set of words which all children should know by the end of their year. Please work through this with your child throughout the year.
Cold weather clothing
We will continue to go outside for ‘brain breaks’ during the day even when it’s a bit rainy or cold. Please can your child bring a warm waterproof coat and wellies so that they can be comfortable outdoors. Wellies can be left in the cloakroom in a bag and taken home at the end of each day.
PE Days
Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays – please ensure that your child brings PE kit on those days. In addition to PE lessons we will do the ‘Golden Mile’ on other days. Please ensure your child has a pair of trainers in school every day, if possible.
