Year 1 - Miss Slattery/ Ms Eaglestone

Year One will be taught by Mrs Eaglestone (Mon-Thurs) and Mrs Fearn (Fri) until Miss Slattery returns from maternity leave.

Our teaching assistant is Miss Remnant and the children may also be supported in their learning by Miss Crawford (TA), Miss Webb and Miss Charlesworth (students).

Our topics this year are as follows:

  • Term 1 – I am Special
  • Term 2 – Winter Wonderland
  • Term 3 – Castle on a Cloud
  • Term 4 – The Secret Life of Animals
  • Term 5 – Island Life
  • Term 6 – Living and Growing

Morning Routine: The children are welcomed into the classroom as soon as the cloakroom door is opened by a member of staff. Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible as space in the cloakroom is very limited!

Hometime Routine: We will stand with the children at the classroom door and let them go when we see you in the playground. If your child is going to after school club or being collected by someone other than yourself then please record this on the board just inside the cloakroom door.

PE: Please ensure your child has a labelled PE kit in school at all times, to include tshirt, shorts, daps (and also trainers/jogging bottoms for cold and wet weather). It would be super to keep a pair of named wellies in school too for our outdoor learning. Thank you very much.

Communication: Please do let us know in the morning if you have any concerns about your child that may affect their day at school. If you would like to discuss anything in more detail then please do pop in to see Mrs E after school. We would be delighted to welcome you into our class at the end of any day to look at our lovely learning!

Parent helpers: We welcome any help from parents either hearing the children read on a regular basis or sharing a particular skill in line with one of our topics. If you are interested in supporting the class in this way then please do contact the office to complete the relevant paperwork.

Homework: Please could you hear your child read daily if possible and support them with their spellings. They will also have ‘pick and mix’ homework linked to their topics, beginning in term 3.

Thank you for your wonderful support with your child’s learning. We look forward to working with you this academic year and are excited to see the progress that your child will make in Frogs Class.
