Welcome back to the new school year. We just wanted to let you know a few details about the coming year. Firstly, we will be studying the Science topic ‘Animal kingdom’ this term.
In term 1, our class will have P.E. lessons on Wednesday each week with swimming on Mondays (you will be informed of swimming dates throughout the year). Please can you ensure your child has a named P.E. kit in school at all times. We would also appreciate it if you could make sure all the children’s uniforms are also clearly marked with their names.
Each Friday we will be setting two pieces of homework. We usually give a Maths homework but it may be English work and/or research based on our topic. The second homework will be spellings. Please could both be handed in on Wednesday. We also expect children to read on a daily basis and to learn spellings and times tables each week.
To ensure that your child is reading with understanding we have created reading journal tasks (found in the back of the journals.) Every couple of weeks your child is expected to complete one of those tasks. If they wish to do more they may. It should be completed in the back of the reading journal.
Could we also ask that your child comes straight to the classroom upon their arrival at school to get themselves settled and ready for the day rather than playing in the playground.
We always welcome parent helpers in the classrooms. If you are interested in helping to listen to children read in school and/or accompanying us on school outings please let us know as it would be very helpful. Parent helpers must have a current police check with the school. If you do not have one and would like to help, please see the office.
Thank you very much for supporting us with this. We look forward to a successful and enjoyable year and hope to meet you soon.
