Although this term has been a very short one, we’ve managed to squeeze rather a lot in! The children had great fun on World Book Day and came in wearing some fabulous costumes. We took the opportunity to explore, in more depth, our class book, Stig of the Dump.
In our topic work we’ve been finding out more about the lives of early man in Britain and really enjoyed our trip to Cheddar Gorge.Thankfully, the weather was kind to us and although a little chilly, we had a brilliant day finding out all about life in the Stone Age.The day began with a fire-making demonstration from a Caveman (you may have noticed the children smelled a bit smoky when they got home!) They also got to try on some Caveman costumes and hold some weapons and tools! We then enjoyed a guided tour through Gough’s Cave where we found out all about Cheddar Man, Gough and his family who discovered the caves as well as learning about the rock formations, including stalactites and stalagmites which we had been finding out about in Science.
The children were on their best behaviour and were a credit to themselves and the school. We received many comments from the staff at Cheddar about how well behaved they were. Well done, Meerkat class!
During the last week of term, the children enjoyed a Sports Fun Day when they travelled around the school throughout the day taking part in 10 different sporting activities. They had great fun!
Since we’ve been enjoying the topic of the Stone Age so much as the two previous terms have been short ones, we will be extending this for an extra three weeks with our class assembly as the finale. We will then begin our Science topic of The Rainforest which we know the children have been looking forward to.
May we take this opportunity once again to thank you for all your support in helping the children to develop their reading and times tables as well as your support with helping the children to learn their lines for the class assembly. Thank you in advance for the costumes which we have asked you for (the children received a letter on the last day of Term 4, please see Mrs Pinkney or Mrs Cowley if your child has misplaced it or if you have any questions or problems relating to the costumes).
