Leading the Battle Against Bullies

12 November 2018
Leading the Battle Against Bullies

Today is the start of Anti-bullying Week, which places a really important focus on the prevalence of bullying and the damaging effects it has on children. At Haydon Wick Primary School, we dedicate a wealth of time and resources every year to preventing and eradicating bullying.

Anti-bullying Week is organised annually by the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA), a unique coalition of organisations and individuals united against bullying. Their vision is to “stop bullying and create safer environments in which children and young people can live, grow, play, and learn.” This is a vision that is shared by our school and The White Horse Federation.

Throughout this week, students will be taking part in lessons and activities that raise awareness of bullying . Some of the key events include:

  • Monday 12th November - Odd socks day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity for children to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique.
  • Tuesday 13th November - On World Kindness Day, we will be doing in-school activities that demonstrate to children the meaning and value of kindness.
  • Thursday 15th November - Thursday is Stop Speak Support: Cyberbullying Day, which we will be making children aware of. We are also holding a whole-school event that involves encouraging parents to send in photos depicting their child being respectful. The photos will be used to create a beautiful display.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the PTA, which has kindly bought each child a ‘Choose Respect’ wristband that they will receive during Anti-bullying Week.

Although this week is an opportunity for us to focus and address the issue of bullying, we would like to reassure parents, pupils, and staff that every effort is being made throughout the year to make our school a safe, enjoyable, and bullying-free environment. Aine Gale, Principal, said: “This week will further reinforce all the values that we teach at Haydon Wick Primary School.”
