School Coffee Morning supports the Fight Against Cancer

The pupils and teachers at Haydon Wick Primary School were delighted to be given the opportunity to miss lessons and enjoy some delicious cakes last Friday morning - but don’t worry, it was all for a good cause.

Since 1990, the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning has helped to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event has proven to be extremely successful, with more than £200 million being raised over the last 28 years, helping the charity continue the fight against cancer.

Last Friday, we had an amazing turnout for our coffee morning. It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents taking the time to share a piece of cake with their children. There was a heartwarming buzz around the hall, and pupils demonstrated our value of the month - patience - while they waited in long queues. A delicious selection of cakes were available, which is down to the parents and staff who generously donated them.

Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. Every two minutes. Macmillan Cancer Support is just one of the fantastic charities that puts so much time and effort into fighting cancer and helping those with the disease.

With millions of people across the UK being affected by cancer every day, Haydon Wick Primary School is proud to have made a contribution to the Macmillan Cancer Support cause. More than £300 was raised by our amazing pupils and their families - a number that will continue to rise as some cakes are still being sold.

Our Principal, Mrs Gale, said: “The morning was a lovely way to bring the community together while also raising funds for such a worthy cause. Thank you to all who helped make this event such a success. Also, a special thank you must go to those who were behind the scenes - washing up, setting up, and tidying up afterwards.”
