Welcome to Rabbit Class!
This year Rabbit Class will be taught by Miss Powell. The children will also be supported all week by the class teaching assistant Miss Bell. Miss Powell is currently taking a period of medical leave following a planned hip operation. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope she is back soon. In the meantime, we are pleased to let you know that Gemma Walford will be teaching the class during Miss Powell’s absence. Many of your children may remember Gemma Walford from Class Swap Day, where she had the opportunity to meet the class and begin building positive relationships with the pupils. Gemma is very much looking forward to working with the children and continuing their learning journey in a supportive and engaging environment. She will ensure consistency and stability for the class while Miss Powell is away.
Topic
This term our topic will be ‘Near and Far’. All topic web and knowledge organisers are displayed on the school website every term, which outlines the learning for the term.
Morning Routine
The children are welcome to come into the classroom as soon as the door is opened by a member of staff, at 8.20am. They must be in the classroom by 8.30am as we will begin our learning promptly. The children will need to come into the classroom independently and then put their water bottle in the tray, any lunchboxes on the trolley and hang up their bags. If your child does bring in a rucksack can you please make sure it is not a huge bag as there really isn’t much space in the cloakroom.
Home time Routine
We will stand with the children at the classroom door and send them to you when we see you. The playground can be busy at the end of the day so please give us a wave so we can send your child to you promptly. If your child is going home with someone other than yourself, please let the class teacher know at the morning drop off, or alternatively leave a message with the office and they will pass it on.
School / PE Uniform
Please make sure ALL items of clothing are clearly labelled including PE kit, hats, coats etc. PE kit should be in school at all times and should include coloured t-shirt, shorts and daps (also trainers/jogging bottoms for cold and wet weather). Your child will bring their PE kit home at the end of every half term to be washed.
Water bottles
Please ensure your child brings in a named water bottle every day to school. We politely ask that it is only filled with water (unless there is a medical reason) due to spillages.
Reading books, bookbags and records
Please read daily with your child and record it in their reading records. Your child should bring their book bag to school every day, as we listen to the children read throughout the week. At the back of their reading record, you will find your child’s Purple Mash and Numbots/Times Table Rockstars log in, should you wish to access them at home.
Homework
We use a creative approach to home learning to give the children an opportunity to choose what interests them. We hope that it will also provide some activities that pupils and parents may enjoy working on together. In addition to the essential daily reading and spelling practice, we will provide you with 7 different tasks to complete across the term. These are varied and cover a range of subjects and we encourage your child to complete 2/3 of these tasks. You may produce your home learning in any way you wish and spend as much time on it as you wish. Once the homework is set, we will let you know the date it needs to be handed in. You have lots of time for this, so spread the tasks out, be creative and have fun! You can post photos/ videos of the work on our Class Dojo page, and we will celebrate the work in school, inviting parents in to view all the hard work at the end of term.
Each week your child will be sent home spellings by Friday which will be tested on the following Wednesday. The spellings will begin focussing on sounds we have learnt in phonics and then we will move onto the Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words. We ask that your child practises the spellings three times in their books and then any other practise down on other paper. Prizes will be awarded to children who regularly get 100% and/or try their best! We will set these once the children have completed some assessments.
We look forward to working with you and your child over the next academic year. If you have any queries, please contact us via class dojo or let us know at drop off/pick up.
